Awful pick up experience. Reserved car for pickup at 12pm, arrived at check in desk at 11:15am as I wanted to ensure I picked up the car on time. Waited in the queue for over an hour to be seen, whereupon I was told I would need to wait over an hour to get my car. All told, I left with the car at 3:30pm, three and a half hours after my scheduled pick up time!!! The car itself was fine but the pick up experience was horrendous and over booked. Avoid

They have an average 2-3 hour wait time to pick up a car you reserved. They charged us an extra driver fee even though we are married and they are not supposed to do that in California, then refused to reverse it. By far the worst rental experience I have ever had and I will never rent from them again.

I had the “manager’s special” but I didn’t know it involved an electric car. I told them I haven’t driven or recharged one before so they gave me an ICE (internal combustion engine … a gas powered car) and charged me $40/day extra! I was visiting a first cousin who was in a San Francisco hospital and recently diagnosed with cancer. Thank you Thrifty for punishing a lifelong gas engine driver who can’t afford and never driven a California-approved electric vehicle! Felt like they were, in effect, saying if you’re too old, stupid or incompetent to drive an electric car … you’ll be sorry you chose us … oy vey!

Kayak.com scammed me by presenting text and a picture of a internal combustion engine powered SUV while reserving me an electric vehicle based on the reservation code according to Thrifty. No one ever answered my calls. The chatbot's only response was to contact the company which then proceeded to charge me $198 for reserving then immediately returning the electric vehicle which wasn't even fully charged. I do not intend to ever use product or service again. Very very disappointed in your product, customer service and company. Never again and I will do my best to share this experience with anyone who cares to listen, read or learn about my terrible experience.

I should get a regular SUV and drive from SFO to PHX, but they said that I've booked an electric SUV, I said it is not possible. I'm sure they lied to me because they didn't have a regular SUV. Therefore I rented an SUV in Alamo but paid in 2 times higher.

The 2.5 hour wait to obtain the car, plus the dollar "system" being incorrect and resulting in the wrong size, is inexcusable!! Another significant delay/wait upon returning the car will absolutely convince me to never rent from Dollar again.

They would not honor my reservation because I booked same day and they ran out of cars. They were overbooked, and said my reservation was too new, snd that they could only give me a car in three hours. I had a wedding to attend that afternoon!! They left me stranded because I used Kayak to book the car!

Alamo's insurance is very pricy and strangely structured. For example, if you get their comprehensive insurance, it doesn't also include liability - you have to purchase that extra. If their insurance was simpler and more affordable, I would have purchased it.

SFO Tram takes a few minutes, planning for extra time when dropping off helped.
I had a quote for $320 and ended up getting charged $720. I will never rent from them again and I was ripped off

The pickup experience was terrible. We waited in line for more than 2 hours and they seemed very understaffed. However, we got a very nice car despite paying for the cheapest one and were very happy with the car as well as the drop off experience.

The check in staff was outstanding! Their customer service was excellent and they were attentive to our needs. Best car rental experience we’ve had!
The line to pickup was very long, but I signed up for Avis preferred (a free signup) while in line and I got much faster service. The car was very nice and drop off was great.

I wanted to provide some feedback to Kayak because there may have been a misleading claim made on my rental. When I went online to do my booking originally, it very clearly stated on the KAYAK website that I would receive a "Mystery Car" at Avis but spelled out that it would be a "sedan that seats 4 people". When I got to the AVIS counter in SFO, they said that it was a mystery car so it was up to them to issue any four door car, so they gave me a pickup truck which was not very satisfactory. First of all, it was not a sedan and second, the trunk at the back was an open bed which made it awkward to travel with exposed luggage. I pleaded with the counter agent that the website specified a sedan with four doors and they asked for my reservation and apparently it just showed a 4 door vehicle and did not specify a sedan, like the KAYAK website did originally when I hit the confirm button on the reservation. I would like to know how this happened because the only reason I proceeded to make the reservation is because the website specified a "sedan with 4 doors" but when the booking partner who provided the deal sent me the confirmation, sedan did not appear to be listed. I really don't appreciate this as to me, it is false advertisement and misleading sales tactics. I could care less what sedan they gave me as long as it was a sedan. But they insisted, all they had was the pickup truck which did not make my vacation enjoyable at all. I reached out to the partner that made the booking with AVIS and they suggested it is likely KAYAK's issue in what they may have printed in the ad. Regardless, I was the one who was out in the end, as I had an uncomfortable ride and ended up paying at least the amount of gas.

I was told the only vehicle available was a large pick-up truck
Planning a long drive trip where EV charging stations were not readily available. Reserved a fuel powered automobile. At pick up point no vehicle was available and an EV had been assigned to me. Counter staff very rude, uncaring about my issue and not helpful to resolving the problem. Manager did find a fuel vehicle for me after a three hour wait. I was charged an extra hour usage fee despite being delayed for three hours.
