It was the worst experience I have ever had with renting a car. I did not request an electric vehicle but ended up with one without any instructions on how electric vehicles work or how to recharge if you have to. The care was not charged all the way so it could not even make it to my destination which was only 3 1/2 hour trip. It took me a total of 9 hours to get home due to having to find a charging station and having to sit for a couple hours in the blazing Sun while it charge only enough to make it home!!!! Do not rent an electric car if you have never used one in the past. It was an absolute terrible experience 😢😢😢 and I lost out on a paying job since it took me 5.5 extra wasted hours of my time.

The women that helped me was so very friendly. They were still cleaning the vehicle from the prior renter. She offered me a seat and we had a very friendly chat for the 5 or so minutes it took to finish up the cleaning.

I thought I was renting a car at the San Jose airport, but it turned out that it was a small facility off airport that cost me $40 to get to by taxi. The airport Hertz was not willing to do anything for me except rent me a car at walk-up rates (at least twice what I had prepaid), and not even give me credit for the prepaid amount. They said I could get it back from the "company". Yes, same company. Very unhelpful while he was telling me how he would accomodate me. I didn't have any reason to suspect that the car I was renting was not at the airport, as I am not familiar with the addresses in that area.

I had inadvertently chose to pick up the vehicle away from the airport. The Hertz desk at the airport was unable to change the reservation to the airport because I originally booked through Kayak. I was able to get a new reservation (at a price that was tripled what I originally booked) through the Hertz employee. He also suggested that I call and cancel my original reservation for a refund. I understand that mistakes happen, but this is the second time the counter employee can’t help me because I didn’t book through them directly. The price was excellent through Kayak, but I was left in the rain at the airport without a car because of my error. I wish Kayak would work with the businesses to avoid these issues.
The lady who helped me check in to get the vehicle was super helpful! The van was very roomy and comfy for my family!!

This was my first time renting a car, and besides the wait to pick up a car at the beginning, I had a very easy time as a first time car renter. Customer service was very nice at pickup and drop off and for the car I got, the price was very reasonable.
We had a wonderful experience with National! I had heard about bad stories with rental car agencies but I couldn't be happier with our whole experience. We rented a Suburban type SUV and got an Expedition Max. This was an awesome SUV big enough to haul all our stuff and seat 8 people. We got it clean and it was just the most comfortable, roomy SUV I have ever been in. I brought it back very dirty after 11 days on the road and they checked it in in minutes and I was off on my way. Highly recommend National!
The pick up experience in San Jose was horrendous. We waited an hour to get a car, as did the customers around us. One had to wait 2 hours. The place was understaffed and unorganized. The company needs better software and hardware. The man who helped us was perfectly lovely it wasn’t his fault there are clearly systemic issues.

They should have had people at the payless counter instead of shuffling people over to the avis/budget counter. It took about 30 to 45 minutes just to get to the counter and another 20 minutes to get the car. If I didn't budget my time, I would have been late for our family event.
I recommend everyone to avoid this place. They did not let us check out the car and didn’t let me speak with the manager. They also refused to ask the manager call me back and said that they were sold out! Avoid!

Total scam on the coverage!!! We paid $1000 for our 10 day rental and at the time of pick up were told the insurance was not included and that would be an additional $39 per day minimum. Plus all these extra taxes and fees we were stuck with a $700 bill on top of the $1000. There is no way their coverage is worth $40 per day for the baseline. We could have paid less money at a nicer rental car company and not had to stand in line for an hour and a half to get our car at pick up. Terrible experience.
